The National Guard provided several hundred soldiers to assist in fighting the 2017 Chetco Bar Fire which threatened Brookings.  Guard assistance was organized from the “Gary Milliman Emergency Operations Center.” Milliman’s role was to coordinate the City’s logistical support for the Guard and other state and federal resources responding to the fire which destroyed 191,000 acres.  Milliman also worked with state and federal legislators, including U.S. Senator Jeff Merkley shown here, to secure resources to fight the fire and secure funding for community recovery.
